Scantech

Handheld 3D scanners for fast, accurate 3D models

FasTech is delighted to be a US distributor for the Scantech range of 3D scanners. These state-of-the art scanners are ideal for rapidly creating exact 3D models for product development, reverse engineering, first article inspection (FAI), quality control and repair and maintenance. The handheld scanners, which can measure and scan large or awkward shapes, automatically transform the 3D scan data into accurate 3D models and is suitable for a range of applications.

Effortless 3D scanning everywhere

The Scantech handheld 3D scanners are portable, so that you are less restricted by your environment – high quality 3D scanning is possible even in narrow, difficult to reach spaces or under large objects, allowing you to capture every detail.

3D scanning for aerospace, automotive, defense, energy and more

Scantech 3D scanner solutions are perfect for use across a wide range of industries including the aerospace, automotive, defense, energy and transport sectors.

How 3D scanning can help the aerospace sector

  • Research and development
3D scanning can be used to assist in computer simulations to help design process
  • Wind Tunnel Testing
3D scanning to help identify any deviations between the 3D scaled down model and the real aircraft
  • Reverse Engineering
3D scanning allows for precise 3D data of the aircraft to be obtained to help generate CAD models
  • Assembly Design
3D models, obtained with 3D scanning, can be used to check the assembly design and identify any potential assembly problems early
  • Repair and maintenance
As part of the repair and maintenance programme, use 3D scanning of in-service aircraft to rapidly detect any defects and possible issues.

How 3D scanning can support the automotive Industry

  • Shorten development time with reverse engineering
By using 3D laser scanners, with an accuracy of up to 0.03 mm to obtain precise measurements, 3D models can be quickly created for reverseengineering. Likewise, if needed clay models can also be quickly scanned to create 3D models
  • Quality control
Engines, transmissions and other key components can be rapidly monitored, using 3D scanning, to detect any deviations during the production process.
  • Inspection
Comparison of 3D data and the original CAD drawings quickly identifies any deviations from the drawings – even for complex objects and curved surfaces.
  • Virtual assembly
Assembly-related problems can be rapidly highlighted and corrected to improve the design.

Factors to consider when choosing a 3D scanner

  • Size of object to be scanned
The size of the object will dictate the choice of 3D scanner. For example, if you plan to scan something very small such as an item of jewellery, a short-range 3D scanner that can provide a precise high-resolution model. However, when scanning large objects such as part of an aeroplane or a wind turbine, you will need a long-range scanner with a large scanning area.
  • Location and accessibility of object
If the area to be scanned is in an awkward, difficult to access position, the best option might be a hand-sized, portable 3D scanner.
  • Required accuracy
Scanning accuracy indicates the allowable deviation of each point captured.
The Scantech range offers accuracy levels from 0.100 mm up to 0.025 mm.
  • Required resolution
The resolution indicates the minimum distance between captured points at a given scan distance. High resolution models are essential in many manufacturing applications to create accurate 3D models of very complex objects.
  • Optimum scanning speed
The speed of scanning will impact workflow and the efficiency of your operation. The Scantech range’s speed varies from 1,350,000 measurements/s to 2,020,000 measurements/s.

Scanners supported by the latest Scantech 3D software

The Scantech 3D software automatically transforms the 3D scan data into an accurate 3D model, perfect for reverse engineering, First Article of Inspection (FAI), quality control, reverse engineering and repair and maintenance operations.
